The Personal Development and Self Assessment Center(PDSA) provides students with personal development activities by collaborating and integrating between other components of the Student Enhancement Center.The Center serves as a bridge between student-led learning communities, officially sponsored public lectures, and student and faculty co-sponsored symposia on leadership and community service. PDSA is funded in part by a Title III grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
 
The Center also enhances the financial knowledge base of Jackson State University students by educating students about money, debt management and elimination and wealth building.
 
The goals and objectives of the PDSA Center are obtained by the successful integration of the following programs and activities:

Intellectual Development through Engaging Activities (IDEA) – provides opportunities for the personal growth of students by initiating, promoting, and implementing educational, social, and cultural programs intended to inspire their personal development. The PDSA Center coordinates IDEA in association with the Office of Judicial Affairs. The program consists of a series of sessions with students designed to heighten their awareness on topics of importance and provide those tools for personal development. The program provides students the opportunity to develop high self-esteem, self-discipline, and personal motivation.

Student of the Month – The JSU Student of the Month recognition program is designed to recognize and honor outstanding JSU undergraduate students. All faculty and staff may nominate individuals that they feel are worthy of this recognition bases on the established criteria. The nominee must be an individual who exemplifies leadership and good qualities. The recipient must also be in good academic standing.

Living and Learning Residential Community – provides programs that are designed to enhance students academically, socially and professionally by providing programs that create a sense of awareness and purpose. These programs are done in conjunction with the Office of Housing. Living and Learning Residential Community programs are rotated among the eight residential halls and provide insight into student interests needs and concerns in developing a learning environment within the residential halls.

Lead By Example Lecture Series – provides students with informative knowledge of the inner and outer workings of our society, our rich history, and heritage. The lecture series are facilitated in conjunction with the Office of Dean of Students throughout the fall and spring semesters. The lecture series will feature affluent individuals who have paved the avenues on various levels in our communities.

Money Wise Program – provides students with sound financial knowledge about debt management, debt elimination, and wealth building. The Money Wise Program provides programs and activities for undergraduate and graduate students with emphasis on first year students, graduating seniors, and students receiving federal financial assistance. Money Wise is funded by a donation from Primerica Financial Services, a division of Citibank.

First Year Experience – provides ongoing support and outreach during new student transition to the academic and developmental opportunities within the JSU community. First Year Experience in conjunction with the Division of Undergraduate Studies provides programs and resources that will assist new students with their transition to JSU, student growth and development, and assist students in writing portfolios and student journals.

JSU Leadership Institute
– is a program sponsored by the Division of Student Life and the PDSA Center. The Institute is geared toward students interested in leadership development. Participants will receive a Leadership Institute Certificate upon completion of eight seminars in the areas of: Communication, Diversity and Leadership Skills. A leadership conference will be held during the fall and spring semesters. The conference is designed to assist in developing leadership skills and provides an opportunity for skill-building workshops on subject necessary in becoming an effective leader in today’s environment.

JSU Developmental Challenge – is a program that is geared toward the Summer Developmental Students. The program offers physical and mental challenges requiring a combination of teamwork skills and individual commitment. This approach to education, counseling, and recreation provides a higher level of expectation of support and caring.

JSU Men 100 – is an all male student organization designed to promote personal and professional development through individual and group activities and programs geared toward excellence, community service, leadership, and brother
