The Community Service/Service-Learning
Center (CSSLC), a member of Campus Compact, was established to
provide a clearinghouse for volunteer and service learning opportunities
to Jackson State University students, faculty and staff. A major
goal of the Center has been to coordinate and document the service
contributions of University students and personnel to local service
projects and community initiatives. With this goal in mind, the
Center hopes to not only impact the lives of those in the surrounding
communities, but to also advance the growth of University students
both personally and professionally.
Work-Study
The Federal Work-Study Program provides
jobs for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need,
allowing them to earn money to help pay educational expenses. The
FWS Program encourages community service work and work related
to your course of study. After being awarded Work-Study and a contract
to work, the student is placed in a department (on-campus) or a
community site (off-campus). Eligible students may choose:
Community Service Work-Study (off-campus)
allows eligible students the option of combining the financial
need to work with the personal goal of helping the local community.
Departmental Work-Study (on-campus)
allows eligible students to work in academic departments and support
units. The selection of students is determined by the department
based on their need, the skill level of the student and the student’s
class schedule.
Students should first apply through
the Office of Financial Aid to determine eligibility for participation
in the Work-Study Program.
