Q1. What should a student do who wants to enter
Jackson State University?
A student
should contact the Admissions Office at Jackson State and request
an application. The Admissions Office will evaluate
the student’s application to determine if the student meets
the requirements for full admission, full admission with deficiencies,
or admission to the University with mandatory participation in
both the summer developmental program and the year long academic
support programs.

admission to Jackson State University with no requirements to
attend the summer developmental
program or the year long academic support program?
1. Complete the College Preparatory Curriculum with a minimum
3.2 Grade Point Average, OR
2. Complete the College Preparatory Curriculum with a minimum
2.5 Grade Point Average or rank in the upper 50%of his/her class
AND score at least 16 or higher on the ACT (at least 650 on the
SAT), OR
3. Complete the College Preparatory Curriculum with a minimum
2.0 Grade Point Average and score 18 or higher on the ACT (at least
740 on the SAT), OR
4. Satisfy the NCAA standards for student-athletes who are "fullqualifiers" under
Division I guidelines
NOTE: Any student, whether an athlete or not, can satisfy the
NCAA standards for student-athletes who are "full qualifiers" under
Division I guidelines . The NCAA standards together with the other
admission standards are applicable to all applicants.

Does any student who is admitted under NCAA "full qualifiers" standards
have to go through the NCAA Clearinghouse? A. No. Students who participate on the college/university level
in sports at JSU such as baseball, basketball, football, golf,
softball, tennis, track and field, volleyball, etc., must be approved
through the NCAA Clearinghouse. Non-athletic students who meet
the NCAA standards for athletes do not have to go through the NCAA
Clearinghouse. These students will be cleared by the Jackson State
University Admissions and Financial Aid Office.
Q4. What is the Academic support program?
A. The academic support program will consist of individual and
computer-based instruction along with career counseling. This year-long
program is designed to assist those students admitted with academic
deficiencies, as well as other students who could benefit from
the program.
Q5. What is the summer developmental program?
A.
A The summer developmental program is a nine week program. Participants
will take course work in reading, composition, and
mathematics. This program will include classroom instruction and
computer labs. In addition, the student will receive the counseling
and support needed to participate successfully in the academic
and social community of a university. The courses will not count
toward graduation. However, students who successfully complete
the summer developmental program will be allowed to enroll for
the Fall Semester.

A. If a student does not meet the standards for full admission,
he/she will be evaluated further to determine if participation
in the summer developmental program is necessary.
Q7. When will the summer developmental program be offered?
The
summer developmental program will begin on June 1 and end August
1.
Q8. What if a student fails to complete the summer developmental
program?
The student will be advised by the Admissions and/or Academic
Counselor of other educational alternatives and assisted in pursuing
those options.
Q9. What will be the cost of the summer program to the student?
The
cost of summer school for an in-state student is $1344 for in-state
tuition, $1028 room and board, totaling $2372 . The cost
of summer school for an out-of-state student is $2773 for out-of-state
tuition, $1028 room and board, totaling $ 3801for out-of-state
students. Federal loans and/or financial assistance may be available
through the University. However, parents or students should be
prepared to assume some of the expenses associated with the summer
developmental program.

To receive federal financial aid funds allocated for the school
year, a student must apply for financial aid for the summer developmental
program BY APRIL 15, IN ORDER FOR THE FAFSA FORM TO BE RECEIVED
AND PROCESSED BY THE FEDERAL PROCESSING AGENCY NO LATER THAN MAY
1. Students must complete two applications, one for the current
school year and incoming school year.

Students eligible for federal financial assistance may receive
