Students
and student organizations are expected and required to abide
by local, state and federal laws. Students
and their organizations must be aware that legal charges may
be brought against them both within the university judicial system
and in the civil or criminal court system. The
University administration is responsible for establishing a procedure
for reviewing and taking institutional action against students
and student organizations found guilty of off-campus violations
of local, state and federal laws. While
the University does not act as a policing agent for students
when they are off campus, the University reserves the right to
take action if a student’s or student organization’s behavior
is judged to be contrary to the pursuit of the educational mission
of the University or if the continued presence of the student
or the organization poses a threat to their well-being or to
the rights and property of members of the University community.
The
Vice Provost for Student Life is directly responsible to the
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and ultimately
to the University President. The
Vice Provost assumes general responsibility for student life
and services offered by the University, from the identification
of prospective students, admissions, assimilation, matriculation,
support services, graduate and post-graduation placement. In
this capacity, it is his/her role to assure that students are
informed of behaviors and activities that are unbecoming and/or
unwelcome in the academy, some of which are listed and discussed
in this section.
