SHAC is a recognized student
organization on campus that serves to represent student interests
at the Student Health Center and to increase student’s
awareness of health issues.
SHAC members are students who are
concerned with health issues on the JSU campus. SHAC members
are from ALL academic and ethnic
backgrounds with a common interest in contributing to the well
being of the campus community. The diversity of disciplines of
SHAC members is the driving force that helps SHAC in implementing
health-related programs to meet the needs of our diverse student
population.
The goals for the SHAC of Jackson State University
are to:
- Ensure highest quality of
health care to JSU students.
- Serve
as liaison between the student body and the Student Health
Center.
- Promote health education and disease prevention to JSU students.
- Review and make recommendations to students’ suggestions
and complains.
- Assist in formulating and developing new ideas to enhance
the student body’s quality of service
- Cooperate with other health related organizations on projects
to supplement SHAC’s efforts in promoting higher quality
healthcare and wellness to students.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
SHAC provides students with the opportunity to:
- Earn independent study units through some departments. (Please
see your advisor;
- Gain valuable experience;
- Develop leadership skills and add to your resume;
- Have an impact on the services offered at the Student Health
Center
- Have input in the Student Health fee decisions;
- Be involved in and contribute your talents to the campus
community;
- Educate peers about health related issues.

By
joining the Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC).
You can gain
valuable experience in leadership, organizing and public education
through sponsoring special health promotion activities
and social events on campus. You will also have the opportunity
to represent student interest at the Student Health Center and
to increase students' awareness of health issues that affect all
of us.
