STUDENT
FINANCIAL AID
The Office of Admissions and Financial Aid at Jackson State University
offers financial counseling and assistance to students needing
aid to accomplish their educational objectives. The
financial aid program provides financial assistance to eligible
students who might otherwise be unable to attend college. All applicants
for financial aid, including those applying for scholarships and
Guaranteed Student Loans, must complete the Free Application for
Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by published deadlines.
To
be considered for financial aid, an applicant must be: A U.S.
citizen or an eligible non-citizen, enrolled at least half-time as
a regular student, prove that need exists, make satisfactory
academic progress, be registered with the Selective Service as
required, and sign a Statement of Educational Purpose.
Several
types of financial assistance are available to students, including
grants, loans, work study and scholarships. Specific
information and application forms may be obtained from the Office
of Admissions and Financial Aid.
Pell
Grants are the largest Federal Student Aid Program. These grants
are for undergraduates and do not have to be repaid. They
are designed to provide a foundation of financial aid to
which aid from other federal and non-federal sources may be added.
*The
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) is
an award for which eligible undergraduates enrolled at least
half-time may apply.
*The
College Work-Study program provides part-time employment for
undergraduates who have great financial need. At
Jackson State University, students
work in a variety of offices and departments during times when
they are not scheduled for class.
Loans
*The National Direct Student Loan program provides low interest
loans, based on financial
need and fund availability, to assist students in paying educational costs.
*The Guaranteed Student Loan is a low interest loan for educational expenses
provided by a lender such as a bank, credit union or savings and loan association.
Financial
Aid
The annual priority deadline for submitting financial aid applications
is April 15 . All financial aid awards are made on a first-come, first-served
basis as submitted to the Federal Central Processor. All awards are made based upon the applicant’s eligibility
and the availability
of funds. Applications
for federal financial aid may be submitted on the Web at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Scholarships
Scholarships at Jackson State University are based on academic
achievement and merit. The
University offers these awards as a part of an integrated program
of financial aid for students. Policies
concerning scholarships are determined by the Scholarship Committee. The

of need. Academic and personal records are the primary criteria for
